Has the Biggest Loser Gone Too Far?

I was reading an article from one of my fellow Fitness Together owners on how he felt about the Biggest Loser and it really hit a cord with me. Does this show really adequately portray Personal Trainers? We all know the results are not typical, the contestant work out 6 hours a day and have their meals closely monitored so they are never over eating or under eating. Let’s face it in the real world no one loses 30 lbs in one week. This alone gives people unrealistic expectations of what they can accomplish when they work out.

Most people who are overweight have psychological reasons as well as physical reasons. I really believe that seeing people on tv lose 6 lbs in a week who are disappointed and told it not’s good enough is just wrong. It can and will mess with people’s minds and make them think their 2lbs are not good enough. Everyone loses weight at different paces and any weight loss is to be celebrated not judged and rejected by peers and the one person who should always be on your side, your trainer.

That brings me to my second issue with the show. The trainers, one of the trainers this week commented how they wanted to train one of the contestant to an inch of their life’s so they could see what it truly means to be on the ranch. They then had another client throw up and outside the gym and they were so proud and wanted to make sure they were really throwing up. That is atrocious in my mind. A personal trainer is a coach who guides you through your Health and Fitness journey. They should be your cheerleader, your guide, and your confidant. They want what’s best for you, actually care about your wellbeing, and want you to enjoy working out.

At Fitness Together our trainers treat our clients as family and friends. We want you to feel comfortable while are working out, sure you are getting a great workout each time, and of course we will get you results. We will never try to make you throw up, tell you aren’t good enough, or scream and yell at you. We believe your journey with us whether you want to lose weight, tone and tighten, or just get in better shape should be an encouraging and positive experience. Let us show you how Fitness Together is the polar opposite of the Biggest Loser, and thats a good thing!
